To celebrate its 200th Birthday, the City of Columbus created a vibrant new riverfront park, complete with a $9 million fountain, bandshell, and a restaurant. Design Collective won the commission to design and brand this new signature restaurant in time for the park's July 2011 opening.
Milestone 229, which seats 90 inside, features tall cedar-planked ceilings and large glass walls that offer panoramic views of the Scioto Mile Park, fountain, and the downtown skyline. A curved backlit bar greets guests as they enter, following along the building's oval shape and leading to an open-concept wood-fired pizza oven clad in copper shingles. DCI used mahogany butcher block communal tables, custom metalwork, and other natural materials to add warmth and complement its park setting. A dining terrace can accommodate an additional 100 guests, and features its own island bar.
